Remnants of Time: ⏳ 6

According to the Greek historian Herodotus¹, in 483 BCE, Xerxes set out to conquer the Greek mainland. To do so, his first attempt to bridge the Hellespont (strait of Dardanelles) ended in failure when a storm destroyed the flax and papyrus cables of the bridges he built over it. In retaliation, Xerxes ordered the Hellespont (the strait itself) whipped three hundred times, and had fetters (shackles) thrown into the water. Xerxes’s second attempt to bridge the Hellespont was, however, successful.

Read about Xerxes, Clint Eastwood, Batman and Darth Vader in King of Kings – Episode I.
